Becoming an Alberta Land Surveyor

The Alberta Land Surveyor’s Association (ALSA) is the professional regulatory organization that oversees the practice of land surveying in Alberta.​Typically, those interested in becoming a professional land surveyor enroll in an accredited institution such as the University of Calgary Faculty of Engineering or the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT).​A CBEPS certificate of completion is required, which demonstrates that candidates have completed the academic requirements necessary to pursue professional registration.​A candidate must then fulfill the requirements set out by the Alberta Land Surveyors’ Association, which include completing the required professional development courses, gaining practical surveying experience, and successfully completing a professional interview with a panel of Alberta Land Surveyors.​Land surveying is a dynamic career that provides opportunities to start a business, work outdoors, apply advanced technology, and contribute to the development and management of Alberta’s land resources.
